Aija Pilka

Gained education is related to historical research, paying special attention to cultural and historical heritage of Latvia - monuments of art, architecture, archeology, research, preservation and protection. A. Pilka is focused on researching the history of Latvian cities and parishes. During the last two years A. Pilka has published 2 books : “Ilukste – metrapolis of Augskurzeme” and “Pilskalnes parish – past and present”.
Currently, Aija Pilka has focused on the research of ethnic groups of Latvian historical lands - Curonians, Libians, Selians, Semigallians and Latgalians. In the near future A. Pilka plans to publish her studies in 5 volumes, combining them in monograph "Baltic ethnic groups in the territory of Latvia during 6th-12th centuries". By working for the association " Cultural and Historical Heritage of Latvia " A. Pilka wants to draw societies attention towards cultural history of each persons own parish, city, county and region, so eople would be proud of their birthplaces uniqueness.
In her spare time she travels around Latvia and devotes time to numismatics.
